(More customer reviews)I've used these snappy leashes for years, but have now given them up. My current dog, while usually obedient, is liable to lunge after any squirrel that dares to enter her space, which means I'm likely to get my arm pulled out of its socket by a sudden pull of the leash. This doesn't seem to happen with a cloth or woven one, which I can also drop, if need be, without either me or my dog getting smacked by a big chunk of runaway plastic. But even when she's walking quietly, the constant zzzzzzz as the leash retracts and spools out gets annoying. Also, these leashes don't last very long - something snaps in the internal mechanism to make them limp and useless. I don't know if it's because of this lively little dog, or not; my last pooch was more sedate, and I seem to remember having to replace these things every few months, anyway. Finally, I've become more cautious about any leash package that contains warnings about possible injury to the dog owner. Whatever convenience a retractable leash provides - neater storage? - no longer seems worth it.
