Our dog had surgery and came home with an adjustable plastic cone. He absolutely hated it. He constantly tried to remove it. He couldn't drink water with the cone on couldn't smell the ground, couldn't chew a bone. The cone also has sharp edges which were cutting the dogs paws as he tried to get it off. The cone wasn't easy to put on and I was worried it would be too tight around his neck.
There has to be something better than this cone right?
Thankfully there is. While the dog doesn't love it he tolerates it and he's not obsessed with getting it off. He can sleep, drink and chew a bone. It takes some effort for him to chew a bone but he can do it. It's also much easier for him to sleep.
You have to thread a collar through the inside loops to keep it securely around the dogs neck, so you will need a collar that's easy to snap on and off.
The only problem, I couldn't attach a leash to the doughnut or to the collar on the inside of doughnut. I had to buy an extra collar so I could take the doughnut off and quickly put the second collar on to walk him.
The main reason for these things is to prevent a dog from getting at a place on their body, so you need to watch for a while after putting it on to make sure they can't.
Our dog couldn't get near his stitches with this on. Not only did the dog feel better we felt better too. Great Idea!
