I've lost many tennis balls of which can be attributed to my dogs A.D.D.
I'll throw the ball and on her way back she decides its time to go potty or sniff tree. When she's done with her business she returns to me, but leaves the ball for her master to fetch.I've had a pretty hard time doing this at dusk and the balls become MIA. This product saves me money on lost tennis balls.
I even bought a similar ball that was glow in the dark (no led) and on about the 4th throw she lost that also. Still can't find that darn thing. The LED ball beats a glow in the dark ball hands down.
Anyway, this has enabled me to play fetch with her no matter what time of day. Especially during the shorter winter days where it gets dark around 4:30pm (bellevue, WA).
I've actually noticed that she is less distracted by things because she really can't see anything besides the bright light (red in my case) and also because there are pedestrian's and other dogs this time of night.
Pair this up with one of the LED dog collars and it's quite a sight to see a bobbing light (your dog) and then the ball in the distance being picked up and bobbing back to you as your dog runs back to return the ball.
The BAD:
-You need to be somewhat gingerly with the product.
The directions say to avoid hard contact such as batting the ball (with a baseball bat). I use a chuckit to throw the ball (great product that is easy on your throwing arm and allows your to avoid picking up a slobbery ball with your hands).
On my last throw for the evening I threw the ball nearly as hard as I could and on it's first bounce on the pavement the innards of the product were strewn across the parking lot. I spent the next 30 minutes in the dark looking for the led, inner plastic casing, rubber ball, and the rubber stopper. (I was about to give up after 30 mins and as I was starting to walk inside my dog dropped the last piece I was looking for next to me as if we were still playing fetch. It felt like an act of god. I'm digressing, sorry)
But the product has too many advantages for this to become a fault that should dissuade you from purchasing. I was easily able to reassemble the product.
-A parking lot curb or similar surface can toggle the on/off switch
In the 1hr I played with her, the ball turned off by itself twice. It will get your heart rate up when you see the ball hit a hard surface just right and the ball stops being illuminated, only to have it's final resting place be in the interior of some thick bushes. That usually means that your dog won't be able to find it and you'll most likely have to return tomorrow to find the ball. I wish the on/off toggle took several more seconds of being depressed to switch.
Other than that, I really like this product! Worth the money.
