I'm just got off the phone with SportDog customer service -- had to wait on hold 16 minutes before I got a human, listening to the same three recorded messages over and over -- and they tell me they will replace the unit but will not do a refund.
I want to return it because at this point I have no faith in the product and don't want to have to shock myself every time time I put it on my dog to make sure it's on a level he can feel. When I first got it 7 weeks aga, level 3 felt pretty painful (on my hand) but now level 3 is undetectable to me, and evidently to my dog as well, as he doesn't give any indication he feels anything.
I'm really sorry I didn't get the Dogtra 1900NCP, which has 14 rave reviews on Amazon. But I went with this one because it looked more ergonomic, and comes with a training DVD. The DVD is a joke, they tell you to shock your dog every time you give a command! IOW, you're punishing your dog before he's even had a chance to obey. That is nuts.
May 27, 2011 update: The unit failed entirely yesterday and Sportdog is sending me a full refund. I bought it in mid Feb and it lasted until late May -- 3 1/2 months. Not very impressive.
